Preparing for Liposuction

Everyone is doing it; probably more than you think. A little nip here, a little tuck there. But when it comes to elective procedures, Liposuction is one of the most common and results in a dramatic effect. Taking off a few pounds also has numerous health benefits; particularly for men. Studies have shown that shedding unwanted pounds that collect around the waist can reduce the risk of serious illness including diabetes and heart disease. Not only will Liposuction make you look great, you will feel healthier and have more energy.

But what are the first steps after you have decided on having a Liposuction procedure? Well, curiously enough, you should lose weight. That’s right—you should start by losing weight. I know what you’re thinking: “If I could do that, then I wouldn’t need Lipo!” The answer to that is: not really. And, if you think about it, losing weight before Lipo just make good sense. First and foremost, successful Liposuction candidates have already made a conscious decision to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Subsequently, the suggestion to start losing weight right away is a natural progression to their new way of life. The procedure is only as effective as the patient’s maintenance of their body. Just like celebrity-Lipo-gone-bad stories; it will have adverse effects on your body if you return to your gluttony after having a Liposuction procedure. Second, and perhaps most important, losing weight will actually reduce the trauma to your body and expedite the time it takes to recover. Dropping as many pounds as possible before the big day will limit the amount of work the plastic surgeon needs to do on the body. The less time the vacuum probe spends inside you, the better! The procedure itself is minimally invasive, requiring a small incision near the primary Lipo site.

However, the instrument used to remove the fat is inserted into the incision and vigorously manipulated to release the excess body fat. This vigorous action can lead to bruising and swelling. Therefore, the less fat that needs to be removed; the less bruising and swelling will present in recovery; and, the faster you are back on your feet! In other words, dropping pounds before you go in for Lipo can drastically reduce your recovery time and lead to amazing results.
