New Study Reveals Gynecomastia Has Negative Impact on Adolescent Boys

The April issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journal published a study which found out that gynecomastia, also known as male breast enlargement, has negative effects on the adolescent boys’ self-esteem and other areas of their emotional and mental health. Dr. Ali Tehrani recommends an Inland Empire gynecomastia correction procedure for males who wish to reduce the appearance of their breasts.

Low Scores on Quality of Life Assessment

The researchers of the study administered a series of psychological exams to 47 boys, all of which are relatively healthy and with an average age of 16.5 years. All 47 subjects were reportedly evaluated for breast enlargement. The results of the psychological exams were compared to the results from a group of boys who didn’t experience gynecomastia.

The press release stated:

Patients with gynecomastia had lower scores on a standard quality of life assessment, indicating problems in several areas. Even after adjustment for weight and body mass index (BMI), the patients had lower scores for general health, social functioning and mental health. They also had lower scores for physical health, but this was attributed to being overweight.

It is important to note that the negative self-esteem reported amongst the boys was directly related to gynecomastia, rather than being overweight.

The lead researcher, Dr. Brian I. Labow further stated, “Merely having gynecomastia was sufficient to cause significant deficits in general health, social functioning, mental health, self-esteem, and eating behaviors and attitudes compared with controls.”

Inland Empire Gynecomastia Correction

Treatment of gynecomastia in Inland Empire involves stopping the use of the causative agent if possible, control of weight, and may include either conventional or laser assisted liposuction-liposculpture alone or direct excision supplemented with liposuction-liposculpture. Often, scars are hidden in the breast folds and around the areola (darker skin around the nipple).

The choice of techniques is individually determined and depends on the size of your breast tissue, the assessment of the amount of fat versus actual breast tissue, and the extent of your breast’s droopiness.
