Let’s Walk through a Thigh Lift

Thigh LiftA thigh lift procedure removes excess fat and skin from the inner thighs, outer thighs or both. The surgery can be a solution for people who haven’t been able to achieve results with diet and exercise; it can also be needed to reduce the excess skin that can result from substantial weight loss.

Reshaping your thighs to a tighter, more youthful contour

As we age, our thighs can lose their firm look and feel. Some people have struggled with thighs that have always been heavy or out of proportion. Other reasons for thigh lifts include:

  • Extreme weight loss from bariatric surgery
  • Extreme weight loss through dieting
  • Extreme disappointment with loose and flabby thighs

Should you consider thigh surgery?

Our thigh lift patients have usually expressed that they feel self-conscious and “want their legs back.” Sometimes they’re unhappy with the effects of aging that have led to sagging, dimpled and loose skin. For patients who have succeeded with serious weight loss efforts, plastic surgery may be the next step in their body-reshaping journey. Whatever your reasons for seeking a thigh lift, it’s important that you’re in good health and have realistic expectations about what the surgery can achieve.

The two different types of thigh lift procedures are medial (inner) and lateral (outer). You will work with your surgeon to determine which is best for you or if your goals require both, often called a lower body lift.

An inner thigh lift requires an incision in the groin area where excess fat and skin are removed, and the area from the groin to the knee is recontoured.

An outer thigh lift is a more complex procedure that includes removal of more tissue to recontour the area, which usually includes the buttocks. The incisions are usually more extensive than for an inner thigh lifts.

You’ll be able to see new, smoother contours right after your procedure

There’s a two- to eight-week recovery period that includes some bruising, swelling and soreness. But after your recovery, if you maintain your weight, a healthy lifestyle and exercise program, the results can be long lasting.
