Ear reshaping is an outpatient procedure that requires only local anesthesia and sedation, meaning preparation is minimal. Still, Dr. Tehrani will give you instructions to follow, such as avoiding blood-thinning and anti-inflammatory medications. If you smoke, you should stop before your procedure. You may also need to do bloodwork and arrange for transportation home from your surgery.
Ear Pinning
Ear pinning is the process of moving the ears closer to the head so they don’t stick outward as much. During the procedure, specialized sutures are used to “pin” the ears back to a more normal position. Any incisions are made behind the ear within the natural contours, so any scarring is completely unnoticeable.
Cartilage Reduction
Cartilage reduction is the process of removing a small amount of cartilage from the cup of the ear to reduce its size. This is done through a small incision in the back of the ear – Dr. Tehrani can also reshape the cartilage as needed. The result is ears that are more in proportion with the rest of your features.
Ear Reshaping Recovery
After ear reshaping surgery, recovery typically lasts for 7-10 days. You can return to daily activities within a couple days, but you may not feel comfortable being in public while your ears are healing. If you have long hair, you can cover them as needed. For the first two weeks, avoid strenuous activity. If you engage in contact sports or wear a helmet, you should wait 6-8 weeks.
Within 4-6 weeks, you can begin to see your final result and feel the full impact of your new confidence.
