If you are considering an initial consultation with Dr. Ali Tehrani at Inland Empire plastic surgery or if you have already scheduled a procedure, we have compiled a few helpful checklists to keep you informed and prepared for your different visits. Some ideas are provided below.
Initial Consultation Checklist
Take documents associated with your medical history such as laboratory results and names of your previous doctors and their contact numbers.
Create a list of your previous medications, herbal supplements, and vitamins.
Tell your doctor about previous reactions with anesthesia.
Request a list of preoperative and postoperative instructions such as which medications to cease, supplies to be prepared during the procedure, hygiene recommendations, and dietary restrictions.
Determine the level of support which you may need post-surgery.
A Day Before the Surgery Checklist
Secure supplies which you may need post-procedure.
Find someone who can drive you home and most likely stay with you post-surgery.
Fill in postoperative prescriptions.
Pack your surgery bag the night before the surgery and do not miss packing comfortable clothes, container for contact lenses/eyeglasses, insurance card, living will, and advance directive.
Special Note on Quitting Smoking Before Surgery
Apart from the ill effects brought about by smoking, cigarette use weeks prior to surgery could actually lead to low oxygen levels in your body. The less oxygen available, the greater the risks of poor wound healing such as wound separation, red scars, and skin necrosis. It has also been shown that smokers tend to experience complications from anesthesia and develop infection as a complication of the surgery.
