When It Comes to Breast Implants, Is Bigger Really Better?

Victorville breast implantsWhen you decide to have a breast augmentation, there are several decisions that you need to make such as implant type, size, shape, and placement. For women who choose to get breast implants, Dr. Tehrani, at his Victorville breast augmentation practice, will make it a point to help them make the right decisions during personal consultations.

The Most Natural-Looking Results Possible

One of the most common concerns we get has to do with breast implant size. As much as possible, we encourage women to choose a size that will enhance their figures without looking fake or unnatural. Ideally, after your breast augmentation, you want people to say, “ Wow! Did you lose weight? You look really good!” rather than “Hey, are those real?”

Here at our practice, we want to you have the optimal breast size possible that is in proportion to the rest of your body, not necessarily the maximum size of the implant type of your choice. We understand that each woman is unique — from aesthetic goals to preferences to body type. Implants too small may not properly fill your breast tissue while too large implants may cause a lot of discomfort on your end and even show through your skin if you don’t have enough breast tissue. Some women who had extremely large implants even report loss of sensation in their breast and nipples.

Making the Decision on Breast Implant Size

By and large, the following factors should be taken into consideration when considering implant size:

  • Forget about cup sizes. Although most women tend to think of their breast size via bra cup sizes, it should be noted that bra cup size are actually subjective measurements. Each bra manufacturer has their own bra cup size standards. Thus, you may be 34D in one brand but 36C in another.

  • Consider your fitness and lifestyle habits. If you regularly run marathons, you want to choose implants that will not interfere with your routine.

  • Pick an implant size that looks good on you rather than what looks good on a friend.

  • Existing amount of breast tissue.

During your consultation with Dr. Tehrani, a thorough assessment of your body measurements will be done including your weight, height, and width of your shoulders. Broad-shouldered women, every so often, need larger implants. Asymmetry of breasts and position of your nipples will also be taken into account.
