For most of our patients here at our Inland Empire plastic surgery practice, one of the concerns they express during eyelid surgery consultation is what their recovery period will look like and the specific measures that they need to take to make it shorter, safer, and more comfortable.
By and large, an eyelid surgery with Dr. Tehrani is usually done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia alone or conscious sedation. The procedure itself will approximately last for 2 hours, depending on the amount of tissue or fat that will be removed.
Here’s a quick look on what to expect following the procedure:
Your eyes will most likely be covered with bandages immediately following surgery.
Excessive tearing and light sensitivity may be present and a lubricating ointment will be applied to prevent excessive dryness (which happens despite excessive tearing) and facilitate healing. Blurred vision may be a temporary effect of the ointment. Oral medications to help you deal with pain and prevent infection will be prescribed. Report any type of unmanageable pain and discomfort to Dr. Tehrani.
Considerable swelling and bruising on the area operated on may be present for the first week following surgery but will eventually subside.
If you’re wearing contact lenses, they are allowed to be worn once all the sutures has been removed, which is usually within 7 days.
You are not to use make-up, drink alcohol, or spend time staring at digital screens until Dr. Tehrani gives you the go-signal. In addition, it is best to replace old make-up with a new one to reduce your chances of infection around the incision area.
