Think before you eat. Your skin will thank you

At Tehrani Plastic Surgery, we use the latest and most effective procedures and technologies to help our patients improve their appearance – from head to toe. Some of our most popular procedures are used to help you erase wrinkles and bring back more youthful skin. To meet your goals, we use a variety of methods, from non-invasive to surgical.

We all understand that there are some things about our changing skin that we simply can’t control: aging is inevitable, sun does damage that shows up later in life and, simply put, none of us have the same skin we did when we were 10 or 15 years younger.

But in addition to the anti-aging procedures we can offer you, there’s something you can do to enhance your skin’s appearance before you ever visit our office. You can be more careful about what you eat and drink.

skin-friendly foodsSome of the most common foods and drinks that we all consume fairly often are not skin-friendly – and some are. Here are a few of the good, bad and ugly. If you care about your skin, you know what to do:

GOOD: Dark berries
Blueberries and blackberries contain antioxidants that block free radicals and prevent cell damage.

GOOD: Brazil nuts
This nut contains selenium, an antioxidant mineral that can help protect your skin from sun damage. (One known cause for acne is a diet deficient in minerals.)

BAD: High-fat foods
French fries, potato chips, donuts, melted cheese – they may taste good at the time, but they do bad things to your skin over time.

UGLY: Sugar
It’s bad for your skin – and the entire rest of you. And added sugar is everywhere, not just in the obvious foods like candy, cakes, donuts, etc. Sugar causes insulin levels to spike and inflammation to attack. Just one of the many bad things that inflammation does to you is break down the supporting collagen and elastin in your skin.

We can tell you about more skin dos and don’t – some of them may surprise you. Call us for a consultation today: 760-240-2444.
